HOW TO MANUALLY SETUP A SYNC TO
Problem:
Some users would like to sync the database at 2 locations (home and work) but
do not want to use the Internet to sync - use the following instructions to
sync using a
Solution:
NOTE: IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU SETUP A MASTER DATABASE BEFORE YOU DO THESE
STEPS - SO THAT PROCESS FIRST THEN COME BACK AND DO THE FOLLOWING:
Since you have created the master already you should have 2 files that sync:
C:\Program Files\Mark-It Systems\Mark-It Advantage Xi\Contact.mdb and
Master.mdb
1) Exit from Advantage Xi and Copy the Contact.mdb to your USB Drive - I would
create a folder like E:\XiData (E:\ is just an example drive letter - use the
one that is your USB Drive) and copy the contact.mdb into that folder
2) Go into Advantage Xi > Utilities > Database Utilities > (Bad
Database Links) tab > [Synchronize to a Moved Database] > select the
contact.mdb in the USB XiData Folder then click Begin
- this will force a sync to the database. Once it is done then close that
window to return to the Database Utilities window
3) click on the [Select Databases to Synchronize With] button in that same (Bad
Database Links) tab and place a checkmark on your Master.mdb and the
E:\XiData\Contact.mdb so it will only sync with those 2 files then click ok
4) click on the (Synchronization) tab then click the Sync Now button to sync
the Master.mdb and Contact.mdb on the USB
-----------------------------------------
Make sure you are not in Advantage Xi when doing the following at your home
computer
1) Now, take the USB home and copy the \XiData\Contact.mdb (could be a
different drive letter instead of E:\) and place a copy of the database into
the C:\Program Files\Mark-It Systems\Mark-It Advantage Xi\Contact.mdb - this
will overwrite your existing database with the correct database from your
office computer.
2) Login to Advantage Xi and then goto Utilities >
Database Utilities > (Bad Database Links) tab > [Synchronize to a Moved
Database] > select the contact.mdb in the USB XiData
Folder then click Begin - this will force a sync to the database. Once it is
done then close that window to return to the Database Utilities window
3) click on the [Select Databases to Synchronize With] button in that same (Bad
Database Links) tab and place a checkmark on your E:\XiData\Contact.mdb ( or
what ever drive letter the USB is) so it will only sync with the USB file then
click ok
4) click on the (Synchronization) tab then click the Sync Now button to sync
the Contact.mdb on the USB
--------------------------------------
you should now be able to move the stick from place to place and sync at each
location....
