Advantage Xi Replication
Revised: (2/22/05)

Overview of Replication

Replication of your data in Mark-It Advantage Xi allows you to access your data in several locations/computers effortlessly. Before you begin to use the Advantage Xi Replication Wizard, you should understand that this process IS NOT EASILY REVERSIBLE. Currently, the only way to unreplicate your data is to send your database to us, and have us do a special process that will reverse the process. So, do not continue with this process unless you are absolutely sure that you want to run your Advantage Xi software on a network.

Before you begin setting Mark-It Advantage Xi up on a network, you need to make sure that you have done the following things. If you do not know this information, please ask your Network Administrator, as we will not be able to help you unless you can provide us this information.

What this document contains:

Creating a Database Master

1) From the Main Menu click on the UTILITIES Group then Click on Database Utilities

2) Select the Setup Icon, which is the 2nd icon from the Left

3) After you have read the Introduction, click the “Next” Button

4) Next, select the type of setup that you want to do. Since you want to create a database master, select the first option and click the “Next” button.

5) Next, select whether or not you have a computer that acts as a file server or not. How you answer this question will help the wizard decide the type of replication that you need to use on this computer.

6) Based on the answer to step #5, the wizard will have chosen an answer for this question. Unless you are told to change this option by support, you should just click the “Next” button to continue.

7) If you choose the “Another Computer/Folder” option, then you be asked to select the master database location. This is the computer that you have designated as the master computer, and you need to select it using the screen shown. Please note: If you cannot browse to the master computer, then Advantage Xi cannot synchronize with it. Make sure that you can browse to the master computer before starting the replication wizard.

8) Finally, you will be asked what synchronization options you would like to use for this computer. Based on the answers to the previous questions, a suggestion has been made. You can change your selection on this screen at any time, so for right now, it is best to just accept the selected item and click the “Finish” button

9) At this point in time, you will be asked if you want to exit Advantage Xi to continue. Answer Yes.

10) There will be a screen that pops up, and notifies you of the progress. After the screen goes away, you will have your database converted into a design master.

11) Once Advantage Xi restarts, the system will sync to the new master database automatically. Make sure that the sync is successful

If you are making a lot of changes to the database, then you should keep the number low (such as 10 minutes). If you are not making very many changes to the database, then you could probably set it to a high number (such as 120 minutes).

4) If you would like the Synchronizer to not synchronize whenever you start Advantage Xi, then clear the checkmark next to the “Run Mark-It Database Synchronizer” label.

5) If you would like the Synchronizer to sync when you exit or ask if you want to sync when you exit then use the dropdown options on "Sync When Exiting Program"

6) If the databases to synchronize with is blank - you can place a check in "Show Bad Database Links" to see the full path of the database that Advantage Xi can not reach at this time.

7) If you are syncing to the Internet and want it to only sync once each day then place a checkmark in "Do Internet sync Once Each Day" this will help speed up your system when you start Advantage Xi.

8) [Document Transporter] allows you to select external documents like word processing documents or flyers to be synchronized and retrieved on another computer.
