Upgrading To Advantage Xi
From Mark-It Advantage 4.03

 

  1. Install Mark-It Advantage Xi onto the Computer that has the old Mark-It Advantage 4.03 installed.  (If you are on a network you may skip this step)
  2. Run Mark-It Advantage Xi
  3. Enter the Information on the New User Screen.  Make sure you enter All Information – This is what will print by default on reports.
  4. On the Main Screen of Advantage Xi
    Click on Utilities > Update Xi
    (Make sure you are connected to the Internet before doing this step) 
    This step goes out to the Internet and gets the latest files then will return you to the Main Screen again.
  5. Next we want to add ‘ALL USERS’ to the system before importing – the calendar import section of the import will ask for the coordinator of the event.  This person needs to be in the list so you can select them.  If you are the only users of the database then go to step 6
    1. Click on Utilities > Mark-It Options
    2. Click on the Users Tab
    3. Click on the ‘Add User’ button for each person and enter his or her information.  Make sure you give each user a login name and password (at least 5 characters)  -
      The password is case specific: MASTER is not same as Master
  6. Next we want to backup the Xi Database before doing the import of the Old 4.03 data.  This will allow us to return to a blank database in the event that the conversion does not work properly. 
    Click on Utilities > Database Utilities > Backup/Restore
    1. Answer ‘Yes’ to do you want to Continue
    2. Click on ‘Backup’
    3. Leave the Target Drive on C:
    4. Click on ‘Click HERE to Begin Backup’
    5. When it is finished then close the backup/restore program
    6. Continue to step 7

If the Import process does not work correctly and you want to restore your blank database to try it again do the following:

            Click on Utilities > Database Utilities > Backup/Restore

a.      Answer ‘Yes’ to do you want to Continue

b.      Click on ‘Restore’

c.      Leave the Source Drive on C:

d.      Click on ‘Click HERE to Begin Restore’

e.      When it is finished then close the backup/restore program


 

  1. Next we will want to Import the Old 4.03 data (Make sure you have already done step 6 – Backup)
    Click on Utilities - If you have an Icon ‘Import’ Then Continue to Step 8
    We will need to add the ‘Import’ Icon to the Utilities Menu
    1. Right-click on the Utilities Menu
    2. Click on ‘Add Mark-It Advantage Xi Program…’
    3. Double-click on the program called ‘Import’ to add it to the Utilities menu on the left
    4. Close the Add Program Window.
  2. Click on the ‘Import’ Icon under the Utilities Menu
    1. On the Select Type of File to Import Choose ‘Mark-It Advantage 4.x’
    2. Click Next
    3. Select the ‘User Directory’ where the Old Database is located.  Usually this is located in ‘C:\MARKIT4W\USER00\’ but if you are on a network you will need to select the correct location of this directory on your network (Example:  ‘F:\MARKIT4W\USER00\’
    4. Click Next
    5. Leave All the checkmark options the way they are.
    6. Click on ‘Begin Import’

 

  1. Import Process:
    1. During the import it will count through the database records.
    2. It will convert each of the contact database
    3. It will convert all the .HED documents (HED > RTF)
      (NOTE: There are a series of Message Boxes that will display during the document conversion.  There will be a pair of message box that says
      1) ‘Click here AFTER the document conversion from HED to RTF is Complete’
      2) ‘HED to RTF conversion complete’. 
      Depending on your version of windows they will popup in a different order.  DO NOT CLICK ON THE [OK] BUTTON on Question 1 above until AFTER you press the button on Question 2 above.
    4. Next it will convert all the .RTF documents (RTF > TXM)
      (NOTE: There are a series of Message Boxes that will display during the document conversion.  There will be a pair of message box that says
      1) ‘Click here AFTER the document conversion from RTF to TXM is Complete’
      2) ‘RTF to TXM conversion complete’. 
      Depending on your version of windows they will popup in a different order.  DO NOT CLICK ON THE [OK] BUTTON on Question 1 above until AFTER you press the button on Question 2 above.

 

 

  1. Calendar Import:

During the Calendar Import the system will ask questions like who is the person know as ‘John’ and allow you to select a user from your database.  If that person is no longer with you or you are not sure then select the database owner from the list.

  1. Once you get the Finished Import message you are Done!
    Exit the Import Program and begin using Advantage Xi
